Zak Ford doesn't follow the current baseball writing trends focused on statistical analysis and academic style research. He prefers stories that humanize players as opposed to dehumanize them.

His book, Called Up: Ballplayers Remember Becoming Major Leaguers, captured the feelings and emotions of becoming a major league baseball player.

He is currently working on a book about post-playing career transitions he has given the working title of Next Up.
